Securing the perimeter of a correctional facility is nothing new. Correctional facilities have been around for a very long time but of course with each generation, facilities are improved, expanded and sometimes even rebuilt. Protection and management of perimeter security at this type of site is therefore under constant review.
All of our main PIDS products have been installed at correctional facilities. Our fence detection system and perimeter management system have together proved a very effective combination at a number of correctional facilities in different countries. Also, because we can give specialist training to facility personnel in advance of installation, the sites can be assured of trouble-free installation and operation, leading to savings on time and money.
To provide a deterrent to escape or intrusion, our electric fencing system can be installed on top of a perimeter wall or fitted to a perimeter fence. Sometimes we are asked to provide a retrofit solution where an old electric fence system is no longer performing well. For example, the old energizers might be failing and parts to repair or upgrade are simply no longer available or the software control system might be failing or is outdated in terms of ease of use.
For anyone interested in improving the existing perimeter security of a correctional facility, we can recommend this US State Prison case study. It quotes the problems encountered with an old electric fence system, the very specific requirements of a new system to replace it and details how the solution was delivered.
Some correctional facilities have additional areas of open space behind fencing or walls which also need a separate form of detection system. Our microwave detection product (photo left) is the ideal tool for open space and sterile zone detection. It offers many advantages over buried sensors including ease of installation and comes at a much more affordable cost.
Increasing numbers of correctional facilities are now choosing this microwave system.
